Axon is seeking a Senior RF Engineer II to join their Video Products R&D team in Scottsdale, Arizona. This role involves leading the design and development of wireless connectivity solutions for next-generation Body Worn Cameras and other video products. The Senior RF Engineer II will apply their expertise in LTE, 5G, Wifi, Bluetooth, and GNSS circuits and systems to design, develop, and test cutting-edge video products.
Responsibilities: - Lead the RF design and integration of high-performance wireless subsystems.
- Design and optimize chip-down RF circuitry and integrate modules for technologies such as LTE, 5G, GNSS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
- Own the RF system architecture and execution from concept through mass production.
- Partner with antenna engineers to select, evaluate, and integrate antenna solutions.
- Conduct RF system debugging, interference mitigation, and receiver de-sense analysis.
- Guide PCB layout for RF integrity.
- Oversee technical deliverables from design partners.
- Characterize, test, and validate RF performance using lab equipment.
- Conduct real-world RF field testing.
- Translate product-level wireless performance requirements into actionable RF specifications and test plans.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building internal RF engineering best practices.
Requirements: - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering discipline.
- 10+ years RF design and integration experience.
- 8+ years designing and optimizing wireless solutions for mass-produced battery-powered handheld, mobile, and/or wearable products.
- 5+ years designing chip-down cellular circuits (LTE, 5G RedCap, CAT4 and above).
- Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with complex multi-transceiver wireless systems engineering, integration, and RF circuit design for 4G, 5G, multi-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS wireless technologies in portable, mobile or wearable products.
- Proven experience as a hands-on Lead RF Engineer, including all phases of product design, from concept to mass production.
- Proficient with technical oversight, design reviews, and management of RF design partners.
- Proven ability to own multiple wireless design projects from concept to mass production.
- Strong cross-functional understanding of the challenges and trade-offs in implementing multiple RF transceivers in complex, high-density mobile or wearable electronics.
- Significant practical experience with RF debugging and receiver de-sense mitigation.
- Strong hands-on proficiency with RF measurement equipment, measurement techniques, and evaluation criteria necessary to ensure robust and reliable wireless design.
- Broad conducted, radiated, and field testing experience for cellular, GNSS, Wifi, Bluetooth technologies.
- Extensive experience with RF circuit and system characterization, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Schematic design experience preferably using Cadence/OrCAD tools.
- Skilled in guiding layout for wireless designs, performing detailed layout inspections, and issuing design recommendations.
- Understanding of antenna theory, structures, selection, and performance requirements.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regional regulatory requirements related to RF design and certification (e.g., 3GPP, PTCRB, GCF, FCC, ETSI).
- Familiar with mobile network carrier requirements and related device approval processes.
- Experience working within global cross-functional engineering teams and mentoring junior engineers.
- Strong documentation, communication, and presentation skills.
