Engineering Manager, Android Engineering

Job Description

Axon is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of Android-focused engineers within its Robotics team. This role involves driving the development of mission-critical software solutions and fostering a collaborative environment. The Engineering Manager will shape the future of Axon’s Android-based software systems, including those running on the Ground Control Station (GCS) for advanced robotics. The team will deliver solutions that redefine public safety through real-time AI, video streaming, and data management.This position is primarily remote near Seattle, requiring occasional in-person collaboration. Travel may be required to Axon's other locations.What this role involves:

• Ensuring alignment of team objectives with organizational goals.
• Leading planning, prioritization, stand-ups, and team retro meetings.
• Partnering with product managers and designers to deliver user-friendly Android applications.
• Collaborating with other engineering teams to deliver seamless integration of key components.
• Developing and code-reviewing software in Java/Kotlin.
• Hiring and growing a high-performing engineering team.
• Mentoring team members through regular 1:1s and performance reviews.
• Coaching the team to continuously improve processes and achieve excellence in engineering practices.
• Delivering new features and product improvements to customers regularly.
• Helping manage Android Application and Custom Android build releases.

Requirements:

• 8+ years in software development with 2+ years in people management, preferably leading Android application or embedded Android engineering teams.
• Proven success in planning and delivering multiple overlapping projects spanning several months.
• Experience implementing Engineering Processes that emphasize Quality, Security, Maintainability, Extensibility and Operational Discipline.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor a diverse engineering team, fostering both technical and professional growth.
• Strong background in Android development, including experience shipping applications to the Google Play Store or building custom Android systems.
