The ACLU is seeking a Deputy Legal Director/ Director of the Center for Democracy. This role involves overseeing the work of the Center for Democracy and directly supervising the five Project Directors within the Center. The Center for Democracy encompasses the ACLU’s Speech, Privacy and Technology Project, Voting Rights Project, Immigrants’ Rights Project, National Security Project, and Human Rights Project.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the Project Directors.
  • Provide advice and guidance on litigation strategy.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of strategic plans and budgets.
  • Serve as a spokesperson and subject-matter expert.
  • Work with various departments to ensure coordination.
  • Collaborate with the Development Department.
  • Work with business operations units.
  • Engage in special projects.

Requirements:

  • J.D. degree and significant impact litigation experience.
  • Commitment to Center for Democracy priorities.
  • Strong management skills.
  • Ability to manage and motivate teams.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively.
  • Experience in developing multi-faceted strategies.
