Site Reliability Engineer, Datastores

Cisco is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join their Datastores team in Lisbon. This role is focused on the company’s platform’s mission critical datastores, such as MySQL, ElasticSearch and Kafka. The team is responsible for all aspects of the platform’s datastores, such as availability, performance, change management, capacity planning, monitoring and emergency response. The ideal candidate will have a strong software or operations background and experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale high available datastores systems.

The Site Reliability Engineer will work closely with application development teams to ensure the reliability and performance of Cisco's infrastructure. This position requires the candidate to be in the Lisbon office (Lagoas Park, Oeiras) at least one day a week.

What this role involves:

• Designing, implementing, and maintaining elastic and resilient datastores that support the platform at a multi-region scale.
• Collaborating with software engineers to ensure that the platform datastores infrastructure and services are designed and optimized for availability, latency, and performance.
• Participating in and contributing to improve the 24x7 incident response and on-call rotation.

Requirements:

• Strong Infrastructure as Code skills, ideally with Terraform and Kubernetes.
• Ability to write high quality code in Python, Go, or equivalent languages.
• Ability to design and implement scalable and well tested solutions, with focus on datastores (amongst MySQL/PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, Kafka, DynamoDB, S3)
• Good knowledge of cloud provider managed services (ideally AWS), and how they can be leveraged in our context.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
