The ACLU is seeking a Technology Fellow for its Speech, Privacy & Technology Project. This role is a hybrid position based in New York, NY, requiring in-office presence two days a week. The Technology Fellow will monitor technological developments, identify civil liberties concerns, and advise ACLU staff on technology matters. The role involves supporting ACLU affiliates and collaborating with lawyers and technologists on litigation and advocacy work.

What this role involves:

  • Monitoring technologies and technological developments for civil liberties impact.
  • Collaborating on strategies and responses to technology and civil liberties issues.
  • Building and maintaining links between the ACLU and technology communities.
  • Serving as a resource to ACLU staff on technological matters.
  • Educating the public about technology and civil liberties issues.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; advanced degrees in a relevant field are considered.
  • Research or employment experience related to technology's impact on civil liberties.
  • Strong communications skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues.
  • Ability to identify and understand technical issues and their civil liberties implications.
  • Excellent analytic, writing, and communication skills.
