Contractor: Website Development Lead

Job Description

Newsela is seeking a Website Development Lead Contractor to contribute to the marketing experience for Newsela.com, Formative.com, and GenerationGenius.com. The contractor will provide technical leadership, implement new features, and lead architectural and technical best practices.

The role involves reviewing requests, refining scope and requirements, breaking down work into iterative deliverables, guiding the team in setting sprint goals, and ensuring high-quality and timely delivery. The contractor will partner with Engineering, Product Management, and Product Design to refine ambiguous goals into clear work items.

Role involves:

• Providing technical leadership and direction.
• Implementing new features.
• Leading architectural and technical best practices.
• Reviewing requests and refining scope.
• Guiding the team in setting sprint goals.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of experience in website development using PHP and MySQL.
• Experience building complex web applications.
• Advanced knowledge of custom Wordpress development.
• Advanced knowledge of semantic HTML, responsive CSS, and modern design patterns.
• Proficiency in English.
• Experience with REST APIs.
• Understanding of relational databases.
