Job Description
Axon is seeking a Senior Research Scientist II to contribute to AI and Machine Learning projects in the public safety space. The role involves investigating research approaches, assessing implementation risks, and defining success metrics for AI/ML projects, while collaborating with other research scientists and machine learning engineers. The Senior Research Scientist II will be actively involved in the entire AI innovation life cycle from model prototyping to deployment and continuous learning.What this role involves:
  • Driving phases in ML development, including shaping datasets and investigating ML architectures.
  • Training, evaluating, and tuning ML models, and implementing end-to-end pipelines.
  • Leveraging state-of-the-art research to deliver high-quality models for multiple AI projects at scale.
  • Contributing to the research community through publications, tech blogs, and open-source code.
  • Participating in internal and external AI challenges.
Requirements:
  • A Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of combined academic and industrial research experience developing LLM and other NLU models.
  • Experience in big data ML and data-efficient ML techniques.
  • Hands-on experience in developing, scaling, and implementing machine learning solutions using Python, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Experience in prompt engineering and fine-tuning ML models.
  • Experience in developing LLM-based applications, including agent-based and RAG-based systems.
  • Familiarity with NLU/LLM cloud services and APIs (e.g., OpenAI).
  • Deep understanding of metrics for offline and online evaluation of LLM-based systems.
  • Track record of publications and contributions to the machine learning community.
  • Experience with designing and shipping software products that leverage machine learning at scale.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and communication abilities.
