Job Description
Science is seeking an Optical Engineer to join their Optics team. The Optical Engineer will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and testing optical and optomechanical systems and components for innovative medical devices. They will collaborate with a team of engineers, neuroscientists, and clinicians to develop devices aimed at restoring vision, cognition, and mobility to patients. Role involves:
- Designing lenses and optical components for ophthalmic devices and wearable AR/VR type devices with Zemax
- Generating and finalizing engineering specifications and error budgets for systems and subsystems
- Building, characterizing, and refining complex optical systems and subsystems
- Applying rapid prototyping, testing, and analysis to assess feasibility of novel optical components
- Building test fixtures and developing metrology as needed
- Assembling and troubleshooting prototypes and beta-release medical devices
Key Qualifications:
- 4+ years designing and testing complex optical systems
- Thorough understanding of geometrical optics, wave optics, and imaging systems
- Proficiency with optical design software (e.g., Zemax, Code V, FRED)
- Experience with lens design
- Proficiency with Python or C++
- High level of attention to detail and intrinsic motivation
- Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering or a related field
