CNC Machinist/Senior CNC Machinist

Job Description

Rocket Lab is seeking a CNC Machinist/Senior CNC Machinist to join their Space Structures Complex in Middle River, Maryland. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, setting up, and operating CNC machines to build flight-ready hardware for the Neutron rocket, ensuring it meets Rocket Lab's specifications. This role involves working with composites, interpreting drawings, providing feedback to engineering, and implementing improvements to processes.Rocket Lab offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid vacation and holidays, and a 401(k) plan.What this role involves:

• Working with composites CNC machine cutting carbon, glass, and wood.
• Machining massive components for the Neutron rocket.
• Reading and translating drawings/CAD models.
• Providing feedback to Engineering to improve instructions.
• Working with CNC programmer to maintain tolerances and do basic programming activities.
• Reducing non-conformances found by quality or engineering.
• Providing improvement ideas on batch sizes, setups, tool selection, etc.
• Tracking calibration and maintenance of all equipment and tooling in the area.

Requirements:

• HS Diploma and 2+ years of experience with CNC operation on lathe and mills (CNC Machinist) or 5+ years (Senior CNC Machinist).
• Familiarity with using 5 Axis CNC.
• Experience with composite materials, especially carbon fiber.
• Ability to interpret drawings, GD&T.
• Familiarity with MasterCAM.
• Familiarity with Fanuc and/or Siemens Control.
• Proficiency in using precision measuring tools.
