Job Description
Sotheby's is seeking an Assistant Vice President to lead the controllership function for Sotheby’s Financial Services. This role involves partnering with SFS to ensure appropriate P&L and balance sheet management, overseeing ledger account management, bank reconciliation, and cash flow analysis, and ensuring complete and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. The AVP will also develop and review systematic reporting on financial results. The ideal candidate should be able to think analytically, build narrative, and synthesize quantitative and qualitative findings, and be comfortable working with Executive Leadership and collaborating cross-functionally.

Responsibilities:
  • Support SFS in accounting and financing functions, including leading monthly, quarterly, and annual book close.
  • Oversee and support the processing of routine transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Company policy.
  • Facilitate the review of department spend with relevant SFS Department heads.
  • Oversee completion and review of all SFS balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Lead audit coordination for Sotheby’s Financial Services.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or similar.
  • CPA or Chartered Accountant certification required.
  • 8+ years’ experience in Controllership and/or Accounting.
  • Strong logical and analytical skills.
  • Experience with financial services or lending industries a plus.
  • Solid communication skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and critically in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills; exposure to Tableau, SAP, and HFM a plus.
  • Intelligence and Humility.
