Job Description
Affirm is seeking a Staff Security Engineer to join their Security Team. In this role, the engineer will focus on building and maturing the Security Observability Engineering program, with an emphasis on automation to support Detection and Response workflows. This is a hands-on position requiring experience in securing cloud environments and building automations across different platforms. The engineer will also participate in on-call duties and serve as an engineering escalation point.
Role involves:
- Serving as a technical leader for the Security Observability & Detection Engineering program.
- Building automation and middleware-based integrations to improve detection and response workflows.
- Enhancing logging pipelines around critical data sources.
- Contributing to the detection program by writing advanced detections.
- Tuning detections to improve fidelity and calibrate signals.
- Supporting the Incident Response team and leading remediation efforts.
- Developing and maturing security incident response playbooks and processes.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams and leading key security projects.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in Detection and Response with an engineering focus in a cloud environment (AWS, EKS preferred).
- Experience in programming to create automations (Python & Terraform IAC preferred).
- Experience developing data ingestion and normalization integrations.
- Hands-on experience handling investigative, containment, and remediation actions.
- Experience with Sec Ops tooling such as SIEM, EDR, and MDR providers (Splunk, Elastic, SentinelOne, CrowdStrike, Red Canary, Expel, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes or similar).
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-code (IaC) including Terraform.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to lead projects and drive workstreams with cross-functional stakeholders.
