Job Description
Alpaca, a brokerage infrastructure technology company, is seeking a Director of Financial Crimes to lead their financial crimes program. This role involves building systems and leading initiatives in a fast-paced crypto environment. The Director will develop and execute core processes around transaction monitoring, alert clearing, investigations, and SAR filing. They will also play a strategic role in hiring and scaling a high-performing Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
Responsibilities: - Own the end-to-end financial crimes operations.
- Design and implement workflows for identifying and investigating suspicious activity.
- Identify gaps in existing tools and processes and improve them.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and legal teams to ensure compliance controls.
- Act as the primary subject matter expert on financial crimes risks.
- Lay the groundwork for a scalable FIU.
- Stay ahead of regulatory developments in the crypto space.
Requirements: - 4–6 years of relevant experience in financial crimes compliance, BSA/AML, or related areas.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex projects.
- Experience with resolving alerts, creating processes, and SAR drafting.
- A strong understanding of U.S. AML and sanctions laws.
- A “builder” mindset.
