The ACLU is seeking a Senior Policy Counsel to join their National Political Advocacy Department. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing civil rights and civil liberties through policy development and advocacy. This hybrid role, based in Washington, D.C., requires in-office presence two days a week.

Role involves:
  • Identifying opportunities to advance civil liberties and civil rights.
  • Developing strategic legislative and administrative policy options on immigration.
  • Drafting bills and regulations at various levels.
  • Lobbying elected officials and providing legislative counseling.
  • Coordinating strategy across departments and with external partners.
  • Providing expert commentary to media.

Requirements:
  • Advanced degree (J.D., M.P.P.) or equivalent experience.
  • Lobbying experience and familiarity with immigration policy.
  • Experience working in political, policy, legal, or government settings.
  • Expertise in policy development and communication skills.
