The ACLU is seeking a Senior Policy Counsel to join their National Political Advocacy Department. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing civil rights and civil liberties through policy development and advocacy. This hybrid role, based in Washington, D.C., requires in-office presence two days a week.
Role involves:
- Identifying opportunities to advance civil liberties and civil rights.
- Developing strategic legislative and administrative policy options on immigration.
- Drafting bills and regulations at various levels.
- Lobbying elected officials and providing legislative counseling.
- Coordinating strategy across departments and with external partners.
- Providing expert commentary to media.
Requirements:
- Advanced degree (J.D., M.P.P.) or equivalent experience.
- Lobbying experience and familiarity with immigration policy.
- Experience working in political, policy, legal, or government settings.
- Expertise in policy development and communication skills.
