Data Science Manager

Job Description

Yalo is seeking a Data Science Manager to lead its applied data science efforts in building and scaling an intelligence platform. This platform powers recommendations, personalization, and emerging Generative AI/NLP use cases. The role involves translating data science into business impact, empowering a team of high-caliber data scientists, and aligning closely with product and operations stakeholders.

The Data Science Manager will be responsible for driving roadmap and prioritization, enabling impact from staff individual contributors, and fostering stakeholder partnerships. They will also champion data storytelling, manage cross-team execution, and promote lean model development and iteration processes.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing, mentoring, and empowering a team of applied data scientists.
• Driving roadmap and prioritization in collaboration with product and operations stakeholders.
• Ensuring senior individual contributors are unblocked and strategically guided.
• Acting as a trusted partner to business units, translating challenges into solvable data problems.
• Championing data storytelling and writing internal memos to clarify impact and rationale.
• Managing project dependencies and ensuring timely delivery of cross-functional initiatives.
• Promoting lean model development and iteration processes.

Requirements:

• 7–10 years in data science or analytics, with 2+ years managing high-seniority ICs.
• Strong ability to frame work in terms of business impact and customer value.
• Proven record of managing competing priorities and driving focused execution.
• Strong communicator with experience working closely with product and ops teams.
• Skilled at setting direction, coaching senior talent, and building a high-trust team culture.
• Comfortable presenting to non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
