Job Description
Sotheby's is seeking a Junior Specialist/Cataloguer to join their Classical Chinese Paintings department in Hong Kong. This role involves cataloguing, researching, and coordinating sales, while also developing new client relationships and maintaining existing ones. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for Classical Chinese paintings and a strong understanding of the auction process.Responsibilities include:
  • Helping to produce sales catalogues, including cataloguing and researching items.
  • Ensuring research and cataloguing are conducted to the highest standard.
  • Corresponding with external experts and writing essays.
  • Assisting with catalogue production, including photography, layouts, and proof-reading.
  • Providing excellent service to Sotheby’s clients through written and verbal communication.
  • Assisting with valuations and writing proposals.
  • Developing new clients and undertaking business development activities.
  • Participating in ad-hoc duties as requested.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or above.
  • Complete fluency in English, Cantonese or Mandarin, written and spoken essential.
  • Passion and ability to learn about Classical Chinese paintings.
  • Some understanding of Sotheby’s and its culture and services.
  • First-class demonstrable research skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to take responsibility and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach and enthusiasm to learn.
  • Team player with a co-operative attitude.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and have a flexible approach.
