Job Description
Garner Health is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Data Management team. This team builds and operates systems that move, process, aggregate, store, and analyze the company’s most critical shared datasets. The role reports to the Engineering Director, Data Ecosystem and is based in New York City, requiring in-office work 3 days a week.
What this role involves:
- Providing technical oversight and driving new features aligned with Garner’s strategic mission.
- Building and operating scalable, resilient data systems.
- Enforcing rigorous data modeling and governance practices.
- Contributing to the development of a world-class data platform.
- Influencing product and engineering roadmaps.
- Championing data privacy and security.
- Providing leadership and guidance to the team.
- Mentoring, growing, and recruiting engineering leaders.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience in the software engineering industry.
- 4+ years of experience in a data engineering function.
- 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
- 2+ years of experience building big data systems.
- 2+ years of experience working with data governance practices.
- Expertise in dimensional modeling and schema design in cloud-based environments.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into a technical roadmap.
- Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Argo, Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, Spark, Metaflow, DBT, Soda).
- Experience with data science platforms, machine learning infrastructure, or data governance systems.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP).
