Garner Health is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead engineers on the Health Intelligence team in building robust, scalable data pipelines, tooling, and infrastructure. This role reports to the Manager, Data Engineering and is based in their New York City office, requiring in-office work 3 days a week.Garner Health is experiencing rapid growth and is looking for exceptional talent to shape their unique culture. What this role involves: - Building and maintaining high-quality data systems that calculate Garner’s provider rankings.
- Implementing algorithms to improve the accuracy of provider rankings data while lowering costs.
- Partnering with engineers to define coding standards, common libraries, and shared tooling.
- Converting ideas from research into reliable, performant production systems.
- Driving the technical strategy in the team to ensure maintainable, scalable, resilient software.
- Mentoring junior team members and raising the engineering bar.
What candidate should bring to the team: - 10+ years of experience, with 3+ years in Data Engineering or distributed Software Engineering.
- A Computer Science degree or equivalent experience demonstrating CS fundamentals.
- Mastery of Python and SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
- 3+ years of experience working in the cloud (AWS preferred).
- 3+ years of experience building ETL/ELT pipelines with tools like Apache Spark, Apache Beam, AWS Glue, etc.
- 2+ years managing pipeline workflows with tools such as Airflow, Argo, Prefect, etc.
- 2+ years of experience working with Apache Iceberg, AWS Lake Formation, Apache Hudi or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience leveraging analytical solutions such as Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or Trino.
- 2+ years of experience leading other Data Engineers on complex big data initiatives.
- Preferred experience with data privacy standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and security best practices.
- Preferred experience with Kubernetes and data visualization tools like Tableau or Looker.
- A willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and a desire to improve the U.S. healthcare system.
