Job Description
Follett Software is seeking a Director of Software Development to lead the engineering organization for their AccessIt product. This role is based in Wellington, New Zealand, and requires an in-office presence. The Director will head a team of skilled software engineers, driving technical strategy and architectural modernization while ensuring customer-focused and outcome-driven development efforts. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic and collaborative leader, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.Role Involves:
  • Providing technical direction and strategic vision.
  • Leading the planning, design, and delivery of SaaS applications.
  • Driving the iterative modernization of the platform’s architecture.
  • Overseeing the full software development lifecycle.
  • Managing, mentoring, and inspiring a high-performing engineering team.
  • Collaborating with Product Management, Design, QA, DevOps, and other departments.
  • Championing initiatives that improve user experience, reliability, and performance.
  • Defining and tracking key engineering metrics/KPIs.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience managing multiple teams or squads.
  • Demonstrated experience in the Software-as-a-Service industry.
  • Solid knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Strong background in full-stack web application development.
  • Proficiency with Java or similar languages and relational databases (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server).
  • Hands-on experience modernizing legacy systems.
  • Deep understanding of modern engineering best practices and tools.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
