Job Description
The ACLU is seeking a Paralegal for its Speech, Privacy & Technology Project. This role, based in New York, NY, involves providing litigation and administrative support to the legal project. The Paralegal will report to the Deputy Project Director and will be part of a collective bargaining unit represented by Local 2110 of the United Auto Workers Union. This is a hybrid role requiring in-office presence two days per week or eight days per month.
Role Involves:
- Responding to legal assistance inquiries
- Cite checking and formatting litigation documents
- Maintaining files and other litigation items
- Providing litigation, administrative, and research support to attorneys and staff
- Handling administrative duties such as processing invoices and tracking expenses
- Making travel arrangements and managing calendars
- Maintaining databases of project expenses
- Arranging for service of legal documents and preparing discovery documents
- Researching court rules and procedures
- Maintaining case files and litigation tracking systems
- Providing administrative support for application reviews
- Working with interns and providing guidance on projects
Requirements:
- Experience with litigation or administrative support
- Initiative, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and time-management skills
- Strong research and writing skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
