Job Description

A German hardware company, focused on designing and manufacturing cutting-edge microchips, is seeking an experienced Metrology Director to establish a world-class metrology function within their wafer fabrication facility. The Metrology Director will be responsible for the deployment and management of metrology tools, setting up a Six Sigma-driven quality control (QC) system with SPC controls, and developing an advanced metrology with process control (APC) program leveraging AI and machine learning systems. This role demands strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, innovative environment.

In this role, the Metrology Director will:

  • Lead future selection, procurement, and current qualification of metrology equipment.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive metrology data management and integration strategy.
  • Establish and maintain a Six Sigma-based QC system.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing team of process and equipment engineers.
  • Develop and deploy advanced process control (APC) solutions.
  • Drive calibration, maintenance, and reliability programs for all metrology tools.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with process, integration, and manufacturing teams.
  • Support the engineering teams’ analysis of metrology data.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Support the ramp-up of the fab’s pilot line and adapt metrology strategies.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD preferred) in engineering, physics, materials science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in semiconductor metrology.
  • Proven expertise in implementing Six Sigma, SPC, and advanced QC methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with a range of metrology tools.
  • Strong programming/data analysis skills (e.g., Python, SQL, Matlab).
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead technical teams.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, dynamic start-up or pilot-line environments is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Eligibility to work within the EU is required.
