Job Description
The New York Times is seeking an organized and efficient Operations Manager to join their Newsroom Operations team, specifically supporting the Styles and Well teams. This hybrid position, based in New York City, requires regular in-office attendance. The Operations Manager will play a crucial role in supporting the journalism produced at The New York Times by handling a variety of daily responsibilities and short- and long-term projects. The ideal candidate is someone who is motivated by maximizing efficiency, helping others, and solving problems for the good of the team.
Responsibilities: - Schedule and update attendance for meetings and events.
- Support editors during breaking news events.
- Help plan and implement culture-building activities.
- Manage and approve staff expenses in Workday.
- Manage work and vacation schedules.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable.
- Coordinate desk moves.
- Assist with position management transactions.
- Facilitate Workday management, including onboarding.
- Purchase supplies and equipment.
- Manage and pay freelancers and vendors.
- Troubleshoot and assist writers and editors.
- Help with special events.
- Demonstrate support for journalistic independence.
Requirements: - 3+ years of experience in an operational or administrative role.
- Experience working with all levels of management and staff.
- Ability to manage the needs of a team of 75+ employees and leaders.
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Ability to work under deadline pressure and be accessible after hours or weekends.
