Senior Legal Counsel, Insurance

Monzo is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel - Insurance to join their Legal team and help build one of the best, most innovative banks in the world. This role will be the lead lawyer for Monzo's new, and growing, insurance distribution business. The role reports to the Head of Legal for Wealth Products.

This role involves:

• Being a trusted adviser and partner to the Insurance team.
• Advising on the development of Monzo’s insurance offering.
• Supporting the Insurance team in managing third parties involved in the insurance offering.
• Equipping the team to deal with developments in the regulatory landscape for insurance.
• Working with Risk and Control closely to help the team identify and manage legal and regulatory risks.
• Prioritising thoughtfully to continuously operate with the highest impact.
• Developing and implementing processes and procedures to increase the efficiency and scalability of insurance legal advice across the Monzo Group.
• Delivering training, sharing insights from work, and helping educate others on insurance.
• Managing relationships with external legal counsel and ensuring Monzo is optimising legal spend on insurance matters.

Monzo is looking for someone who has:

• Experience advising on general insurance and/or life insurance.
• A solid grounding in direct-to-customer distribution with a minimum of around 5 years relevant post qualification experience (or equivalent).
• Outstanding technical skills and strong knowledge of regulatory and commercial issues in general insurance and insurance distribution.
• A strategic thinker, a strong communicator and a keen problem solver.
• Comfort operating at all levels of the organisation.
