Job Description
GitLab is seeking a Principal Engineer to spearhead platform initiatives for its multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure. This role requires a blend of technical vision, architectural leadership, and organizational influence to scale GitLab's infrastructure. The Principal Engineer will own the technical roadmap across key areas of Production Engineering, including Observability, Network Edge, Disaster Recovery, and Runway, while collaborating with Database Operations and Cells teams. They will also mentor senior engineers, promoting technical excellence across the organization.
What this role involves:
- Driving platform modernization and strategic improvements.
- Partnering with platform and infrastructure teams to align architectural decisions.
- Collaborating with engineering leadership and product teams to align production engineering efforts.
- Addressing evolving infrastructure needs, particularly Cells initiatives.
- Shaping GitLab's infrastructure support for other teams.
- Leading roadmap discussions across SRE, observability, operations, and capacity planning.
- Elevating resiliency, scalability, and performance across GitLab’s SaaS platform.
- Mentoring senior engineers.
Requirements:
- Strong background in backend, site reliability, or platform engineering.
- Experience designing, building, and scaling production infrastructure and platform services.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes.
- Success leading cross-functional initiatives that enhanced system-level performance and reliability.
- Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Go or Ruby.
- Strong foundation in observability, infrastructure operations, and ensuring production readiness.
- Collaborative spirit and ability to mentor and influence engineers and leaders.
