One Acre Fund is seeking a Potato Early Generation Seeds (EGS) Field Production Internee to manage and oversee all activities related to the field production of high-quality early generation potato seeds (G2 & G3). The internee will coordinate different production locations/areas, ensuring optimal seed production, quality control, and managing all aspects of the seed production process. This role reports to the Greenhouse Production Coordinator and is based in Musanze, Rwanda.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily potato field operations to ensure efficient and high-quality production.
- Coordinate field staff, including training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
- Develop and implement field production strategies to meet department objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize potato variety selection, planting, and harvesting schedules.
- Ensure compliance with seed production and regulatory standards in field operations.
- Carry field scouting for proper pests and diseases management.
- Monitor the quality of potato seeds produced by inspecting fields for pest/disease problems, ensuring irrigation and fertilization practices.
- Implement quality control measures for seed certification, ensuring that all potato seeds meet required standards.
- Identify areas for improvement in EGS open production operations and implement strategies for increased efficiency and sustainability.
- Stay informed about industry trends and advancements to incorporate best practices into production processes.
Requirements:
- 1+ years of experience in field production management, with a focus on field operations and management.
- Proven experience improving field production efficiency and quality.
- Strong knowledge of potato agronomy, including soil science, irrigation, and pest management.
- Horticultural Knowledge: Understanding of plant biology, growth cycles, and cultivation techniques.
