Job Description

ESA is seeking a Biologist - Technical Specialist to join their team on an on-call basis. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in an environmental or biological science discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience in southern and central California. The role primarily involves field work and technical report writing, with the greatest need for services expected during spring and summer.

The Biologist - Technical Specialist will contribute to various projects, working near heavy equipment and collaborating with interdisciplinary groups. ESA values creative thinking, teamwork, and multi-disciplinary engagement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct special-status species surveys and nesting bird surveys
  • Identify and relocate sensitive species, when needed
  • Communicate effectively with senior ESA staff, construction crews, and project personnel
  • Maintain written daily monitoring and inspection logs
  • Enter data into an on-line GIS mapping application

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental or biological science discipline
  • Minimum 5 years experience in southern and central California
  • Experience in general plant and wildlife surveys, habitat assessments, and/or technical report writing
  • Experience surveying, handling, or monitoring for specific species (see job description for list)
  • Valid driver’s license and experience driving 4WD vehicles off-road
  • Ability to walk long distances carrying a backpack and lift at least 50 pounds
  • Must have own transportation to project sites and a smart phone
