Job Description

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is seeking an On-Call Archaeological Field Technician to support field projects in Southern California. The candidate will be part of ESA's Cultural Resources Team, which includes archaeologists, paleontologists, and other specialists.

The role involves archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring, surveys, and documentation of resources on construction sites. The technician will coordinate with construction personnel, interact with Native American monitors, and maintain detailed records using electronic data collection tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor construction activities and identify archaeological and/or paleontological resources
  • Effectively communicate with construction crews and project personnel
  • Write and maintain written daily survey, monitoring, recordation, and cataloging logs, including utilizing electronic data collection tools and GIS mapping applications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in archaeology/anthropology/paleontology or related field
  • Minimum of six months of field experience or relative academic field experience in Southern California
  • Familiarity with working on active construction sites and completing DPR forms
  • Knowledge of archaeological materials common to the region
  • Ability to use app-based software for field recordation and mapping
  • Valid driver’s license and experience driving 4-wheel drive vehicles off-road
  • Ability to walk long distances, carry a backpack, and lift at least 40 pounds
  • Open to travel as needed for projects and site visits
