Job Description

ESA is seeking a Biologist - Technical Expert to join their team on an on-call basis. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in an environmental or biological science discipline and a minimum of 10+ years of experience in southern and central California. The role involves conducting plant and wildlife surveys, aquatic resources delineations, and technical biological reporting for various projects. The candidate will work near heavy equipment and must possess a valid driver’s license and experience driving 4WD vehicles off-road.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct special-status species surveys and nesting bird surveys
  • Identify and relocate sensitive species, when needed
  • Communicate effectively with senior ESA staff, construction crews, consultant partners, project personnel, and project management staff
  • Maintain written daily monitoring and inspection logs, including utilizing electronic data collection tools
  • Enter data into an on-line GIS mapping application
  • Work on construction sites around heavy equipment

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental or biological science discipline
  • Minimum 10+ years experience in southern and central California
  • Experience in general plant and wildlife surveys, habitat assessments, and/or technical report writing
  • Experience surveying, handling, or monitoring for specific species
  • Valid driver’s license and experience driving 4WD vehicles off-road
  • Ability to walk long distances carrying a backpack and lift at least 50 pounds
  • Must have own transportation to project sites and a smart phone
