Principal Machine Learning Applied Researcher (L5)

Job Description

Twilio is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Applied Researcher to join its Emerging Technology & Innovation organization. This role involves leading horizon 3 research projects focused on understanding and predicting the future based on technological advances in AI/ML, AGI, quantum computing, blockchain, and more. The researcher will conduct original research, solve complex business challenges, and discover new opportunities within the realm of customer engagement.

The Principal Applied Researcher will lead research projects, experiment with proof of concepts, and stay on the cutting edge of emerging technologies. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with ambiguity, have a proven track record of delivering results, and possess experience with AI, LLMs, and their latest developments.

Responsibilities:

• Define the future based on technological trends and their implications for Twilio.
• Analyze AI/ML trends and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
• Evaluate, design, and prototype novel algorithms and models for real-world applications.
• Benchmark solutions against state-of-the-art approaches.
• Author technical reports and presentations for diverse audiences.
• Mentor junior researchers and data scientists.

Requirements:

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in applied machine learning or AI research.
• Strong publication record or evidence of thought leadership in AI/ML.
• Experience with ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn) and programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++).
• Deep understanding of AI/ML theory and best practices.
• Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills.
