Job Description

Scale is seeking a Research Scientist to join their Safety, Evaluations and Alignment Lab (SEAL). This role focuses on tackling research problems in evaluation, red teaming, and alignment of advanced AI systems. The Research Scientist will contribute to shaping safety and transparency in the AI industry, collaborating with industry and academia, and publishing research findings.

Role involves:

  • Research AI agent capabilities and methodologies for benchmarking.
  • Design and build harnesses to test AI agents for harmful actions.
  • Design and build exploits and mitigations for failure modes in AI agents with coding, web browsing, and computer use capabilities.
  • Characterize and design mitigations for potential failure modes in systems with multiple interacting AI agents.

Requirements:

  • Commitment to promoting safe, secure, and trustworthy AI deployments.
  • Practical experience in technical research with frameworks like Pytorch, Jax, or Tensorflow.
  • Ability to interpret research literature and create prototypes.
  • Track record of published research in machine learning, particularly in generative AI.
  • At least three years of experience addressing ML problems in research or product development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
