Job Description

Mr D, a division of takealot.com, is seeking a BI Engineer to join their dynamic team. The BI Engineer will collaborate with Business Operations Analysts to determine intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs. They will work with business and development teams to design and build tables, models, dashboards, and reports. This role involves data stewardship and manipulation, aiming to uncover insights that are not immediately apparent. The position reports to the BI Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead BI analytical projects for new BI software tools and systems (Google Big Query, Looker).
  • Work on complex, cross-functional, and enterprise BI solutions.
  • Evaluate stakeholder needs to provide appropriate solutions.
  • Participate in the planning, technical design, development, and testing of BI solutions.
  • Provide input to the development of information quality metrics.
  • Review data pipelines and test plans.
  • Research and develop best practices for reports and dashboards deployments.
  • Provide guidance, training, and problem-solving assistance to other team members.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for key BI core functions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Management (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5 years of Business Analysis or related technical experience (or 6 years if without a degree/diploma).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience using BI reporting tools (e.g., Looker, QlikView, Tableau, Microsoft BI, etc.).
  • Minimum 3 years SQL experience.
  • Minimum 3 years Data Warehousing experience.
  • High proficiency in working with large data sets and business models.
  • Retail or e-commerce industry experience is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of one or more business functional areas.
  • Python Experience would be advantageous.
