Head of Platform Engineering (Remote - Work from Anywhere)

Job Description

Xapo Bank is seeking a Head of Platform Engineering to lead their Platform Engineering Team. This role is pivotal in continuously advancing the platform as a product, championing developer productivity and autonomy, and ensuring robust, scalable, secure, and cost-effective operations. The Head of Platform Engineering will report directly to the CTO.

The role involves:

• Leading and mentoring a team of Platform Engineers.
• Defining and driving the strategic vision for the Xapo platform.
• Championing the "Platform as a Product" approach.
• Providing technical guidance and hands-on support.
• Driving operational excellence and automation.
• Developing and testing disaster recovery plans.
• Supporting internal and external audits.
• Collaborating with the Engineering Enablement team.
• Making pragmatic build vs. buy decisions.
• Implementing feedback mechanisms for development teams.
• Ensuring a future-proof architecture.
• Managing vendor relationships and budget.

Requirements include:

• Demonstrable experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
• A strong understanding of "Platform as a Product" principles.
• A passion for improving developer experience.
• Extensive hands-on experience in running and scaling platforms within a DevOps culture.
• Deep technical knowledge across software development, systems architecture, cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS), containerization (Kubernetes), IaC, and observability.
• Ability to translate strategy into a clear platform roadmap.
• Experience integrating with third-party SaaS providers.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Continuous learning and staying abreast of technology developments.
