Rocket Lab is seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer - Propulsion to be based in Long Beach, CA. This role will oversee the introduction and implementation of new products and product revisions related to both Rutherford and Archimedes engines. The Lead Manufacturing Engineer will support the Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Production organization, providing deliverables required for internal leadership, board of directors and investors.Rocket Lab is a global leader in launch and space systems, building rockets and satellites that enable ambitious space missions. The company's Electron rocket has provided reliable access to orbit since 2018, and Neutron, a reusable rocket, is the next launch platform.
What this role involves: - Contributing to design reviews as an expert in design for manufacture and test.
- Performing Value Stream Mapping Exercises and Method of Manufacture plans.
- Implementing factory layouts and equipment selection.
- Developing and documenting production processes, including testing procedures and safety requirements.
- Interfacing with the quality team to resolve manufacturing engineering quality responsibilities.
- Designing, developing, and implementing tooling and equipment to improve quality and delivery.
- Leading continuous improvement using lean tools and techniques.
- Introducing automation and ensuring equipment data links to MRP and quality systems.
- Leading a team of manufacturing engineers through development and production initiatives.
Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of fluid and structural mechanics fundamentals.
- Knowledge in manufacturing processes for aerospace materials.
- Experience in a personnel leadership position.
