Job Description
Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Machining to be based in Long Beach, CA. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the machining development of new products and product revisions as related to the Rutherford and Archimedes engines. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-performing team and push the boundaries with a clean sheet development of a re-usable liquid launch vehicle.What This Role Involves:- Contributing to design reviews.
- Selecting, procuring, and installing machine shop equipment.
- Developing machining capability in-house.
- Designing, developing, and implementing tooling and equipment.
- Responsible for continuous improvement and cost reduction projects.
- Collaborating with other Rocket Lab machine shops.
- Developing and mentoring less experienced engineers and machinists.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of machine shop experience.
- Ability to rapidly iterate NX CAM programs and operate 5-axis CNC equipment.
- Well versed in GD&T and inspection methods.
- Working experience with capacity modeling, process mapping, Lean/Six Sigma and value stream mapping.
- 8+ years of machine shop experience.
- Experience with 3D CAD software and tooling design.
- Experience machining turbomachinery and combustion device components.
- Familiarity with post processing methods, AM and welding.
