Job Description
The ACLU is offering a fellowship sponsorship opportunity for rising third-year law students and law graduates to work with the State Supreme Court Initiative (SSCI) in either New York City or Washington, DC. This fellowship, lasting one to two years, focuses on identifying and briefing important constitutional cases in state supreme courts. The fellow will contribute to litigation and projects aimed at expanding access to justice, establishing equality protections, and promoting democracy through state constitutions and courts.

What this role involves:
  • Conducting legal research and analysis.
  • Drafting legal documents.
  • Developing resources for ACLU projects and attorneys.
  • Drafting and editing public education materials.
  • Supporting ACLU affiliates and attorneys.
  • Engaging in public speaking and attending meetings.

Requirements:
  • J.D. or expected J.D. by spring 2026.
  • Commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, criminal justice, and racial justice.
  • Willingness to work with the SSCI through the funding application process.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct complex legal analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Self-motivation and ability to manage multiple tasks.
