10-11th ELA Associate Instructor (Summer 2025)

SEO is seeking a Summer Academy Associate Instructor for English Language Arts (ELA) to co-teach and support high school students in a college preparatory program. The Associate Instructor will work alongside Instructors to facilitate classroom instruction, teach mini-lessons, organize small group and one-on-one instruction, and provide additional Scholar support. This role involves co-teaching ELA and Advisory courses, with a focus on preparing students for academic and social success.

The position is located in New York City and runs from early June through July 26th. The Associate Instructor will earn $40/hour and will be placed at either Baruch College (10th grade) or LIU Brooklyn (11th grade), depending on the grade level assignment.

Responsibilities:

• Co-teach three to four periods including ELA and Advisory.
• Follow provided lesson plans and meet lesson objectives.
• Utilize instructional technologies such as Brightspace, Nearpod, GSuit applications, and Zoom.
• Prepare for lessons and implement adjustments based on student needs.
• Promote student engagement and a positive classroom culture.
• Collaborate with SEO staff and instructors.
• Attend meetings, professional development trainings, and debriefs.

Requirements:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a content-related field.
• Teaching certification, K-12 classroom teaching experience, and/or experience teaching at the college or university level.
• Experience working with high school-aged students.
• Comfortable with navigating technological learning systems.
• Expertise in advanced high school-level ELA.
