Job Description
Gusto is seeking a Head of People Technology to lead the transformation of its internal HR systems and processes, emphasizing an AI-first approach. Reporting to the Head of IT, this leader will manage a multidisciplinary team focused on creating scalable, intelligent solutions that support the entire employee journey. The PeopleTech team collaborates closely with HR leadership to develop tools and systems that enhance speed, clarity, and capacity across Gusto’s People operations.This role involves:
  • Owning the PeopleTech vision and roadmap, integrating AI across systems and processes.
  • Building and leading a high-performing team.
  • Partnering with various departments to co-design technology that reduces operational friction.
  • Guiding the rollout of intelligent workflows using GenAI and automation.
  • Championing a balanced operating model focused on transformation, enhancements, and AI exploration.
  • Evolving legacy systems toward flexible, predictive architectures.
  • Promoting AI literacy within the People team.
  • Ensuring systems meet privacy and compliance requirements.
  • Launching internal PeopleTech use cases.
  • Advising People and IT leaders.
The ideal candidate should possess:
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in PeopleTech, HRIS, or IT leadership.
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams managing complex HR systems.
  • Experience applying AI and workflow automation to HR technology.
  • Knowledge of Workday and familiarity with other HR systems.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Systems thinking and practical experience in risk and compliance.
  • Strategic and execution-oriented leadership.
Gusto offers:
  • Cash compensation targeted at $157,000-185,000 in Denver and most remote locations, and $185,000-218,000 in New York and San Francisco Bay Area.
