SDE III - ETL Data Engineer

Job Description

Groupon is seeking a senior-level Data Engineer to join their globally distributed team. The Data Engineer will be responsible for building powerful data solutions and will thrive in a collaborative, fast-moving environment. This role involves working with product managers, analysts, machine learning engineers, and fellow data experts to build the systems that keep Groupon's marketplace fast, reliable, and smart.

• Own core data ingestion and transformation pipelines across streaming and batch systems
• Work on both greenfield projects and robust production systems
• Dive into technologies like Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Delta Lake, Teradata, BigQuery, and Hive
• Solve real business problems for marketing, finance, supply chain, and more

Requirements:

• BS/MS in Computer Science or related field
• 5+ years in data engineering, distributed systems, or backend development
• Strong coding skills in Python, Java, or Scala
• Deep SQL knowledge and experience with both relational and NoSQL databases
• Proven expertise in big data frameworks like Spark, Hive, Kafka, and Airflow
• Experience building and supporting production-grade data platforms
• Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a globally distributed team
• Experience with cloud data technologies (AWS or GCP, especially for large-scale processing)
• Ownership mindset and ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
