Job Description
Sotheby's is seeking a Temporary Associate Cataloguer to join their Impressionist and Modern Art Department in London. This role involves working closely with the Heads of Sales and other Specialists in cataloguing and coordinating Impressionist and Modern Art sales and supporting the department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Impressionist and Modern Art, excellent research and communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.Responsibilities:
  • Cataloguing works for consignment
  • Assisting with research and object vetting
  • Preparing condition reports
  • Maintaining active communication with Specialists and Sale Manager
  • Coordinating with Operations, Cat Prod & conservators for pre-sale needs
  • Assist with book checks, essays and editorial content
  • Handcarry and pick up support
  • Coordinating with conservators and Operations for ad hoc framing and repairs
  • Coordinate with operations on Exhibition design spreadsheet and exhibition design order form
  • Assisting the department with valuations and appraisal projects, including data entry
  • Providing a comprehensive level of service to Sotheby’s clients
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, ideally in relevant area of study/interest
  • 1 year of experience in the art world is preferred (also auction house experience preferred)
  • Good, general knowledge of Impressionist and Modern Art
  • Self-starter
  • A team player with excellent communication skills
  • Thorough and focused, with a passion and commitment to learning about and working in the field
  • Professional and discreet client service skills
  • Excellent writing, proof-reading and organisational skills
  • Ability to maintain composure in a stressful environment and meet frequent deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
