Job Description
The Allen Institute for AI (Ai2) is seeking a Lead Research Engineer to join its Earth System team. This role involves advancing geospatial intelligence through AI to address complex environmental challenges. The Lead Research Engineer will work on a new platform for large-scale planetary intelligence, combining geospatial foundation models with infrastructure for fine-tuning and deployment. This position requires on-site presence in the Seattle offices, with occasional remote work possible for candidates in the Greater Seattle area.
Role involves:
- Advancing foundation models for geospatial intelligence.
- Scaling model training and inference responsibly and efficiently.
- Building AI-first tools for scientists and policymakers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, ML/AI, or relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience building, scaling, and optimizing enterprise-grade ML/AI systems.
- Experience coding in Python, C/C++, or other similar languages.
- Experience communicating AI research and development to audiences with different (non-technical) backgrounds.
- 5+ years experience working in ML.
- Expertise in geospatial AI, such as remote sensing and/or ML for geospatial trajectories.
