Staff Software Engineer - AWS, Kubernetes - Infrastructure

Job Description

Opendoor is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of its cloud-native infrastructure. This role requires strong technical skills, strategic thinking, and a passion for building scalable, secure, and reliable systems.What This Role Involves:

• Designing and implementing scalable and resilient infrastructure on AWS using Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
• Leading the architecture and lifecycle management of Kubernetes clusters in production environments.
• Driving best practices around cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and incident response.
• Collaborating with platform, SRE, and application teams to deliver high-performance, secure, and cost-effective systems.
• Mentoring junior engineers and influencing cross-functional teams with infrastructure expertise.
• Championing automation, observability, and performance tuning across the stack.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering or DevOps roles.
• Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS preferred) and AWS services (EC2, ECS, S3, RDS, IAM, etc.).
• Strong proficiency with Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD).
• Proficient in at least one programming/scripting language (e.g., Python, Go, Bash).
• Solid understanding of networking, security, and cloud architecture principles.
• Experience with monitoring/logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog).
