Engineering Manager, Claude Code

Job Description

Anthropic is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Claude Code team in Seattle. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills to scale the team and enhance Claude Code's capabilities. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining core features across Claude Code's full stack, spending the majority of their time writing and reviewing code.

The Engineering Manager will lead and develop the Seattle engineering team, including hiring, performance management, career development, and fostering team culture. They will partner with the SF engineering manager to facilitate cross-team alignment, coordinate execution across distributed engineering efforts, and ensure clear communication of technical decisions and priorities.

Responsibilities include:

• Designing, building, and maintaining core features across Claude Code's full stack.
• Leading and developing the Seattle engineering team.
• Partnering with the SF engineering manager for cross-team alignment.
• Prioritizing and developing capabilities that address common enterprise customer needs.
• Working closely with researchers, product managers, and designers.
• Staying deeply connected to the developer experience by actively using Claude Code.
• Ensuring high code quality, robust testing, and scalable architecture.
• Maintaining clean development workflows, simple onboarding, and efficient paths from development to production.

The ideal candidate should have:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in engineering management or technical leadership roles.
• Strong technical skills across modern web technologies, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems.
• Experience working with enterprise customers and translating their needs into scalable product features.
• Passion for developer tools and familiarity with IDEs and development workflows.
