Member of Technical Staff, Data Platform

Job Description

Envoy is seeking a Member of Technical Staff, Data Platform to join their team in San Francisco. This role is a hybrid Data Engineer and DBA position, requiring strong PostgreSQL DBA foundations and modern cloud-native experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for configuring, administering, and maintaining PostgreSQL Databases, Redshift clusters, and Opensearch/Elasticsearch clusters, as well as data pipelines. They will work with Software Engineering leaders to architect the platform for scale and review teams’ designs for Data scalability and resilience.

Responsibilities include:

• Working with application engineers and architects to shape the data management strategy.
• Performing database maintenance, including upgrades, patching, security, and performance tuning.
• Consulting with software engineers to optimize query performance.
• Planning and performing database upgrades.

Requirements include:

• 5+ years of hands-on database administration experience, with a minimum of 3 years in PostgreSQL.
• Python or Unix shell scripting experience.
• Excellent understanding of PostgreSQL database concepts and structures.
• Familiarity with running PostgreSQL databases on modern cloud platforms.
• Experience with Opensearch/Elasticsearch clusters and clustering architectures.
• Exposure to AWS RDS/AWS and Aurora is a plus.
