Job Description

DLH Corp is seeking a Scientific Support Linux Engineer for a hybrid role in Bethesda, Maryland. The engineer will support lab staff, facilitate communication between scientists and IT teams, and assist with Linux device support. The role involves setting up server hardware, managing cloud resources, and troubleshooting IT issues.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating meetings between scientists and OIT
  • Communicating IT needs of lab staff to IT teams
  • Setting up physical server hardware and cloud resources
  • Fielding IT inquiries and acting as an escalation point for Linux support
  • Writing standard operating procedures for Linux device support
  • Facilitating lab hardware requests and gathering requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of Linux experience
  • 5+ years of customer service/support experience
  • 3+ years of bash/Unix coding & scripting experience
  • Experience with scientific hardware interfacing with IT infrastructure
  • Ability to evaluate server hardware for nontechnical clientele
  • Comprehensive understanding of server/computer hardware
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu 18.04-22.04
  • Functional understanding of Windows subsystem for Linux
  • Ability to lift more than 30 lbs
  • Ability to define user permissions for various security levels on Ubuntu systems
  • Must meet all requirements for obtaining and maintaining a Public Trust Clearance
