Job Description
The Financial Times is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to join the technical leadership team in their Customer Products Group. This role is responsible for the FT’s website, iOS, and Android apps. The Senior Engineering Manager will report to the Technology Director and will lead and grow teams of engineers, support their career development, and ensure successful delivery of technical and product goals. He will collaborate with other leaders to set strategic direction and foster a collaborative environment that prioritizes engineering excellence and business impact.
Role Involves: - Leading, managing, mentoring, and developing 3-5 teams of engineers.
- Setting clear objectives for individuals and teams, monitoring performance, and promoting accountability.
- Guiding teams through challenges, facilitating discussions, and providing broader context.
- Fostering a culture of collaboration, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
- Leading recruitment efforts and contributing to hiring guidelines and technical assessments.
- Overseeing the full operational lifecycle of teams' products and services.
- Collaborating with other leaders to define and deliver on long-term team and business goals.
- Setting direction and scope for technical initiatives and working closely with engineers and external vendors.
- Prioritizing work in alignment with product and business objectives.
- Ensuring delivery of high-quality solutions through efficient processes and adherence to technical standards.
- Maintaining visibility over team progress, communicating updates, and offering strategic guidance.
- Proactively identifying potential issues or blockers and supporting the team in finding solutions.
- Managing relationships with third-party vendors or suppliers.
- Supporting teams in resolving technical challenges while ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Collaborating closely across departments, building strong relationships with peers and stakeholders.
- Communicating a clear vision and roadmap to the team.
- Providing senior leadership with regular progress updates.

Requirements: - Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams.
- Strong track record of delivering technical initiatives that support strategic business outcomes.
- Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, operational excellence, and incident management practices.
- Experience navigating competing priorities and keeping teams focused and aligned.
- Expertise in managing end-to-end delivery processes and improving team workflows.
- Effective communicator across technical and non-technical audiences.
