Engineering Manager (Backend)

Policy Expert is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Backend Engineering Chapter. This role focuses on nurturing engineers, shaping technical direction, and defining processes for high-performing teams. The Engineering Manager will guide engineers in supporting the platform's operational stability and its evolution towards a domain-driven architecture. They will also champion engineering excellence and foster a continuously improving engineering culture.

Role involves:

• Driving the growth of up to 10 engineers through coaching and development plans.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the team has the right skills and capacity.
• Guiding architectural choices and upholding high engineering standards.
• Partnering with engineering leaders to align team work with company aims.
• Championing engineering excellence through practices like Pairing, TDD, and CI/CD.
• Establishing a continuously improving engineering culture.

Requirements:

• Experienced Engineering Manager with skills in coaching and developing software engineers.
• Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Calm, measured, and compassionate leadership approach.
• Solid technical background in Java.
• Understanding of team productivity metrics.
