Job Description

Planet is seeking a Hardware Test Engineer to join their Manufacturing Test Engineering Team in San Francisco. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining tests and infrastructure for satellite manufacturing operations. This role involves collaborating with design engineers to develop board-level and component-level test plans, and designing and developing test fixtures, test hardware, and test software.

As a member of the Manufacturing Test Engineering team, the candidate will work with design, qualification, and manufacturing teams to ensure high reliability and scalability of test systems. They will also troubleshoot failures and non-conformances through all stages of testing.

Role Involves:

  • Developing test plans in collaboration with design engineers
  • Designing custom test fixtures, test stations, and harnessing
  • Developing automation and test scripts
  • Troubleshooting failures and non-conformances

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar
  • 4+ years of experience in satellite AI&T or other manufacturing test development
  • Advanced technical writing skills
  • Experience creating system and wiring diagrams
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware/software issues
  • Familiarity with measurement hardware and test equipment
  • Experience programming in Python, especially functional tests of hardware
  • Comfortable using Linux
  • Experience with DVCS such as git or mercurial
