Job Description
Human Rights Watch is seeking an intern for its LGBT Rights Program in Nairobi. The intern will assist with projects focused on LGBT rights in Africa. This is a part-time role, requiring a minimum of 30 hours per week from mid-July 2025 until January 2026. The intern will contribute to monitoring anti-LGBT legislation, conducting research, and preparing written materials.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting desk and legal research.
- Monitoring legislation and policies.
- Conducting remote interviews.
- Executing data analysis and drafting reports.
- Compiling case histories and researching policies.
- Presenting information.
- Participating in advocacy strategy meetings.
- Assisting with the production of reports and press releases.
Requirements:
- Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate/graduate program or be a recent graduate.
- Strong interest in gender and sexual minorities issues in Africa.
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights.
- Proficiency and/or knowledge of French is preferred.
- Computer skills and experience in social science research.
- Precise attention to detail, a positive attitude, a proactive approach, and good judgment.
- Valid work authorization in Kenya.
