Art Director, Contract

Job Description

Critical Mass is seeking an Art Director to join their team in Calgary. The Art Director will be responsible for conceptual development and the execution of creative deliverables. They will report to the Creative Director and work with a collaborative team of designers, copywriters, and production specialists. The ideal candidate will balance creative thinking with interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to justify concepts to both the client and the project team. This role is required to be in office 5 days per week.

Role Involves:
• Developing concepts and design solutions
• Balancing strategic development with client business objectives
• Directing and delegating to creative services disciplines
• Contributing to project design and development
• Providing quality assurance of creative deliverables
• Mentoring and coaching team members
• Building and maintaining rapport with clients and partners
• Contributing to the innovative development of the creative department

Requirements:
• Strong design portfolio with 5+ years of design and interactive work experience
• Experience leading a team of designers, production specialists, and writers
• Well-developed communication skills
• Ability to think creatively and justify concepts
• Experience with strategic brainstorming and campaign development
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Aptitude for quick creative thinking with attention to detail
• Solid working knowledge of the latest design tools including Adobe CS, Sketch, Principle
• Passion for interactive storytelling, ecommerce, product design, or design systems
• Experience using video, motion samples and/or prototyping
• Comprehensive understanding of interaction and UI design
• Commitment to visual communication
