Software Development Engineer III - Java Backend

Job Description

Groupon is seeking a Software Development Engineer III - Java Backend to join their team in Bangalore. This role involves designing and implementing new features, contributing to all aspects of the agile software development life cycle, and ensuring the effective implementation of business features and compliance rules. The engineer will also improve service stability, create and maintain documentation, mentor junior staff, and drive technical discussions.

Groupon is looking for someone with excellent coding skills and experience in REST API based development of microservices in a distributed environment.

Role involves:

• Developing applications for the Groupon microservice ecosystem
• Collaborating with teams to implement business features and compliance rules
• Building service artifacts, planning deployment, and coordinating tasks
• Improving service stability by identifying metrics and automating alerting responses
• Creating and maintaining documentation
• Mentoring junior staff
• Driving technical discussions

Requirements:

• BE/BTech or ME/MTech degree in Computer Science or related field
• 6+ years of industry experience
• Excellent coding skills in Java or Ruby
• Experience with REST API based development of microservices
• Understanding of design and query optimization (MySQL/Postgres)
• Kafka and Redis usage and troubleshooting
• Experience developing and supporting web applications
• Advanced Docker usage and Kubernetes basics
• Effective use of observability tools
• Experience integrating AI-driven tooling
• Good communication and collaboration skills
