Job Description
The New York Times is seeking an Apprentice Machinist to join their team in New York, NY. This is a full-time, onsite position where the apprentice will work alongside experienced Journeymen Machinists, assisting in the maintenance and operation of machinery and equipment used in the printing processes. The Apprentice Machinist will report to the General Foreman for the Machinists.

Responsibilities:

  • Support journeymen in operating and monitoring different machines involved in printing.
  • Learn to identify minor mechanical problems and work under guidance to resolve them.
  • Develop an understanding of safety regulations and help maintain a safe workplace.
  • Work with journeymen, maintenance personnel, and supervisors to learn and support efficient operations.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Readiness to undergo training on different tools and equipment.
  • Experience with safety guidelines within a manufacturing setting.
  • Physical capability to lift and move moderately heavy items, stand for extended durations, and work in a loud environment.
  • Willingness to work evenings, holidays, and weekends.

  • Rate of pay: $158.31 per shift.
